Summertime
“Oh summer, summertime, pattern of life indelible” wrote E.B.White long before Blue Cheer re-wrapped “ain’t no cure for the summertime blues” into a sleaze-cum-schlock-cum-blues body electric meltdown. Now, summertime is right around the next guitar chord, ready to pounce. Left of the Dial is proud to be working with some new writers who plan on stuffing lots of music under the belts during the tough-skinned rock’n’roll neighborhood that revolves around the summer solstice, and more and more old interviews and profiles will be emerging from the dusty CDRs that keep the terrain of the old magazine intact. If there are interviews you recall that haven’t shown up, or interviews that intrigued you, and you were wondering if we had more material – unused photos, extra edited-out transcript goodies, fliers, and so on – just send us an email howdy and inquiry, since we do have 1,000 pages to filter and seek out the gems. We should be more timely and immediate than the last few months, when we had malfunctions and set-backs, and I am eager to see what is ahead, including the unknown. Also, I wanted to remind people that there is free music, well, if you send us a message, just waiting for you, so see the editor’s note below for details. The offer includes Peter Case doing Plimsouls songs live alongside loud garage versions of the Kinks, to Randy Biscuit Turner from the infamous Texas funk punk band Big Boys re-visiting some of his favorite 1980s “hits” plus lighting clubs on fire with spontaneous whiplash soul and Minutemen and Really Red covers, to a crowd of new power pop bands, plus an awesome punk comp including No Means No and Cringer. So, peekaboo, the ball is in your park. Play it.
